Reporting by Leah
Autism Speaks, Co-Chairs Amanda Niederauer and Danny Ryan, and the Autism Speaks Young Professionals Committee hosted a sold out benefit with close to 800 guests on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange on August 5, 2010.
It was a super cool event for a super cause and an evening of cocktails, appetizers, music, and awareness on behalf of individuals living with autism. Music by DJs Caleb Loftus and Matt Heckman. General Admission Tickets were $75 and $95 with a photo on the historic NYSE Bell Podium.
Autism Speaks’ goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. A cornerstone of Autism Speaks’ mission has always been to raise awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society. In this vein, Autism Speaks, with the help of AS2YP Co-Chairs Amanda Niederauer, Danny Ryan, and a committee made up of 32 young professionals with diverse backgrounds, recently initiated a brand new event series in an effort to reach out to a generation of people who may not be as familiar with the statistics and devastating effects of autism- 23-40 year-olds. The key goal is to raise awareness among this age group in order to arm them with knowledge about what a diagnosis of autism means. For this next generation of parents, awareness and understanding of this disorder will be critical.
AS2YP plans to engage this group, not only through participation in our successful event series, but by developing creative ideas to spread awareness, and by offering greater volunteer opportunities to young professionals. In the years to come, AS2YP also hopes to expand its network to other cities across the nation.
Autism Speaks aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to its concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis. It is Autism Speaks’ firm belief that, working together, we will find the missing pieces of the puzzle.
