From Day Tours to BlockBuster Events, Bannerman Island on the Hudson 2016 Season Showcased the Best of Hudson Valley Heritage and Cultural Tourism
Beacon, New York, October 19th, 2016 – With just four more opportunities to visit the Island this season the popular tours of this historic, picturesque island in the Hudson River just south of Beacon and Newburgh, NY, end for the season Sunday, Oct. 30th with visits to the former Bannerman residence and castle. Two very special Hudson River Legend Tours cap off the season on Sat Oct 22nd and Sat Oct 29th. Fall on the river is probably the most beautiful time to take a river tour and visit the Island. The island hosted it’s most successful season ever with record attendance and an audience pleasing series of concerts and other special events throughout the summer including two SRO Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. productions and the sixth annual Chef’s Farm Fresh Dinner.
There will be off season events at the new Bannerman Island Gallery curated by Laurie Clark. The BCT continues raising raising funds to add braces to to the #3 Warehouse and to convert the Bannerman residence into a visitor/education. The 2017 season starts the first week of May.
The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc., in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, provides public tours of Bannerman Castle and Pollepel Island. Available tours consist of guided walking tours on the island with access either by passenger tour boat or as part of a guided kayak excursion. Tours depart from Beacon (kayak or passenger boat), Cold Spring (kayak), and Cornwall-on-Hudson (kayak). Reservations are required for all tours. Wear comfortable shoes as there is some rough terrain on the walking tours. Strollers cannot be accommodated. There is a 72-step climb from the dock to the start of the tour. Tours depart rain or shine.
Seasonal tours began Sat. Apr 30th running weekends through October 30th departing at 11:00am from Beacon, NY. Bannerman Island Tour tickets are $35.00. Advance purchase required. The Bannerman Castle Trust is dedicated to preserving Bannerman Castle as an educational, cultural, historical, and recreational facility that promotes heritage tourism in the Hudson Valley. To that end, they aim to coordinate resources and funding to stabilize the structures on Pollepel Island so that the island is a safe and lasting destination for public tours and special events. They are also responsible for arranging public tours of the island each year; performing docks, trails, and gardens maintenance; and conducting other special projects (for example, preparation of Historic Structures Reports to document the history of the Castle) under the purview of the NYSOPRHP.
