Why Not Head Up to the Playhouse August 18 and 19 to Watch Some Basketball First Game of the the AAU-Sanctioned Lighting at the Lighthouse Under-16 Basketball Tournament Starts at 9am on Saturday?
Eight teams from New York City and the East End of Long Island will compete in this 16 and under tournament, including those from Mercy McCann, the NYC Lightning and Montauk.
Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come on out to the Playhouse to watch some of the best High School basketball players in the New York Metro Area on the court. The caliber of play is impressive. Last year’s Sunday afternoon championship game went to double overtime and was won by local powerhouse team Kendall Madison. Admission is $5 per person.
THE MONTAUK PLAYHOUSE COMMUNITY CENTER FOUNDATION |
In 1999, the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation, Inc. (MPCCF) was born, and an organized effort to save the historic Montauk Playhouse and create a vibrant home for arts, education, athletics and much needed community and human services began. Thanks to the efforts of the entire community, the Montauk Playhouse has now been beautifully restored, and facilities and services within half of the structure have been up and running since spring ’06. Visit the Playhouse any day and you will find a child day care center, a senior nutrition center, an adult day care center, a high-school regulation-sized gymnasium, a fitness center and a physical therapy practice. And that’s not all – plans are currently underway for an Aquatics Center with lap and recreation pools, multi-use Community rooms and lounges, and a theater. The Foundation is working tirelessly to raise the funds needed to complete the Playhouse. |
