Mario Cantone Hosts A Star-Studded Gala
Rock The Dock at Bay Street Theatre Summer Gala Benefit Bash
The Bay Street Theatre held its Rock The Dock Summer Gala Benefit Bash onSaturday, July 17, 2010,from 6:30pm – 11:00pm and was an event not to be missed.It was held under a beautifully decorated tent on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor, New York,and 430 supporters and friends attended this benefit.
TheGala is held each year as the major fundraiser to support the programs for Bay Street, a not-for-profit professional theatre serving the East End of Long Island and beyond. Bay Street Theatre is a regional theatre presenting new, classic and contemporary works, with a commitment to challenging and entertaining the diverse community. This commitment extends to innovative educational programs that highlight the power of live theater.
This magical evening on the Wharf was hosted by the hilarious and incredibly entertaining Mario Cantone (Sex and the City) and auctioneer Richard Kind (HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm) and included cocktails, dinner, dancing under the stars, and Silent and “Fantasy” auctions. There was a special performance by Escola De Samba Boom and music by celebrity DJ Tom Finn.
Mario Cantone, best known for his role on Sex and the City, has performed his comic routine for several years at Bay Street Theatre’s Comedy Club. Television viewers know Richard Kind for his role in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm along with numerous stage performances. This summer Richard Kind will appear in Bay Street Theatre’s production of ROMANCE, by David Mamet, (August 10 – September 5) alongside Chris Bauer of True Blood and Darrell Hammond of Saturday Night Live. Both Mario Cantone and Richard Kind are members of Bay Street Theatre’s recently formed Artistic Associates Board which includes Alan Alda, Joy Behar, Kim Cattrall, Mercedes Ruehl, Twiggy, Anne Jackson and Eli Wallach to name but a few.
Fabulous food for the event was provided by Sterling Affair Caterers and a special performance by drumming sensation, Escola de Samba BOOM roused the Gala tent.New to this year’s benefit was Tiffany & Co.’s “Mystery Blue Box Moment,” where one box contained a diamond platinum pendant worth over $2,400. Guests were able to pre-purchase the boxes for $100 to $125 on the night of the Gala and with all the boxes sold, $17,000 was raised.
New this year and available prior to the event was the opportunity to bid on some of the “Fantasy” Auction items on CharityBuzz.com. Some of the live auction items included:A Walk-on in ROMANCE, which went for $3,800;Lunch with Joy Behar and Mario Cantone at the American Hotel, which went for $4,250;A cruise aboard the 75 foot trumpy yacht AMERICA which went for $6,250; Dinner reservation forfour at the exclusive Rao’s restaurant which went for $5,000; ands 11-day luxury yacht cruise for two on the Mediterranean from David Morris International which went for $7,500.
