Author Brenda Novak has a second career thats equally close to her heart: raising funds for Juvenile Diabetes.
More than just a regular volunteer, making calls and sending in a contribution, Brenda supports the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami with her own fundraising auction. Wrapping up her sixth year this past May 2010, Brenda has raised over $1,055,780 for diabetes research so far!
Brenda created the auction on her own, reaching out to friends and fellow writers to donate time, products, services and autographed books, to help spread the word and fight the disease that afflicts some two million people including Brendas youngest son.
When my youngest son was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, this disease became a very personal issue for me. says the author. I wanted to do something to not only raise money, but to also raise awareness of juvenile diabetes.
Though shes always busy with her fundraising, luckily for Brendas fans, her true occupation is writing novels laced with suspense and romance. Her new book, WHITE HEAT (MIRA Books, August 2010) is the first in her new back-to-back trilogy set in various fictional towns of the Phoenix metro area, involving three different women challenged with the task of exposing the truth. Like the author, these protagonists are strong women motivated to take control in the face of adversity and to reach out and help others.
