With the largest quality selection of plants in the metropolitan area, BBG’s Plant Sale draws thousands of plant lovers each year who take advantage of the unmatched value, in addition to the helpful gardening advice of on-site BBG horticulture experts. Over 20,000 plants will be on display in an area the size of two football fields on Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s incomparable Cherry Esplanade, with the garden’s glorious cherry trees in full bloom. The Plant Sale helps benefit children’s education programs at the Garden. The two-day BBG Plant Sale offers indoor and outdoor plants, a vast selection of herbs and tomatoes including heirloom varieties, exotic tropicals, perennials, shrubs and trees, native plants, bonsai and pre-bonsai, hanging baskets, and “collector’s corners” of rare and unusual annuals. New to the Plant Sale this year will be personalized services for shoppers, including customized Mother’s Day annual baskets & containers made to order (May 2, 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.), and guided shopping for houseplants (May 3, 10 a.m.), shrubs & perennials (May 3, 9:30 a.m.). Other special highlights new to the event include a bonsai demonstration with BBG bonsai curator Julian Velasco (May 2, 11 a.m.), a talk on cracking the mystery of repotting and re-blooming orchids (May 2, noon and 3 p.m.) with David Horak, Curator of BBG’s Orchid Collection, an “Ask the Expert” session with BBG vice president of Horticulture Patrick Cullina (May 2, 3 p.m.), and more! A Members-only Preview Sale will be held on Tuesday, May 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission for this evening is with a BBG membership card only. Memberships may be purchased at the entrances. With each paid Plant Sale admission, visitors receive a free admission coupon to use on a return visit. A supply of red flyer wagons is provided, but buyers are encouraged to bring a cart if they can. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.
