Why Games are a Great Gift for Baby Boomers Looking to Keep their Brains Young What is the perfect gift for aging baby boomers who want to stay young and keep their minds sharp? It is not a day at the spa. Its not a scholarship to go back to school. Games may help build mental muscle the perfect gift for children and Boomers at a time when families are looking for fun ways to spend their precious time together. To research the game-mind connection, Russell Research surveyed baby boomers on behalf of Hasbro Games to find out what they do to stay young. Boomers report they play games, read, do puzzles, eat healthy, exercise and hang out with people younger than them, in order to feel young. Two-thirds of baby boomers play games to help stay mentally sharp and also feel their level of mental acuity is better than other people in their group. Of those surveyed, 97 percent feel the brain can be trained or exercised to keep it healthy and sharp. Dr. Paul Nussbaum, a clinical neuropsychologist who specializes in brain health and aging across the life span, says that playing games and doing puzzles can be as helpful to keeping a sharp mind as maintaining a healthy diet and reading. Dr. Nussbaum is available to talk to your listeners about how playing games and doing puzzles can help keep a brain young and provide gift ideas for boomers this holiday. He will also talk about the survey and some of its more entertaining findings women are more competitive when it comes to winning than their husbands; boomers hate to lose to kids; and wives are the more cutthroat spouse, when victory is at stake. Dr. Paul Nussbaum is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist and an adjunct associate professor in neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Doctor Nussbaum has 20 years experience in the care of older persons suffering dementia and related disorders. From the outpatient setting to the long-term care setting, Dr. Nussbaum has worked in all sectors of the continuum of care.
