Meditate NYC, one of the programs of “2018 Peace Lanterns Festival,” is organized by the Buddhist Council of New York from 2:30pm – 6pm. It is important to cultivate inner peace, and meditation practice has been one of the key teachings in various Buddhist traditions. We will feature Buddhist teachers from various traditions and countries.
Peace Lanterns Festival has various peace activities from 2pm- 6pm, including Paddling, Decorating Lanterns, Origami, face painting and more, followed by the Interfaith Peace Ceremony and Floating Peace Lanterns from 6:30pm – 8pm.
Free Public Event. Donations are welcome.

Buddhist Council to Host Free and Public Meditate NYC Event in Long Island City on Sunday September 16, 2018
A Day of Meditation to Cultivate the Mind of Peace and Compassion
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, New York, NY—The Buddhist Council of New York (BCNY), an association of diverse and international Buddhist temples and organizations, will present its annual Meditate NYC event for experienced practitioners and those brand new to meditation. Gathering inspiring speakers and well-known teachers from the New York area, the event will be held at Gantry Plaza State Park (Center Blvd and 49th Ave., Long Island City, Queens, NY 11101) from 2:30-6pm on Sunday, September 16, 2018.
Mediate NYC will be a part of the Peace Lanterns Festival, sponsored by HaborLAB and BCNY, along with its partners the Interfaith Center of New York and the Global Movement for the Culture of Peace. This exciting event includes free paddling, and drawing lanterns from 2:30pm – 6:00pm, speakers and interfaith peace prayers at 6:30pm, followed by a sunset floating peace lantern launch on the East River starting at 7:30pm – 8:30pm.
The event is taking place on a week dedicated to international peace corresponding with the United Nation’s International Day of Peace. Ever mindful that meditation is a powerful and transformative way to bring peace to the mind, while nurturing a wholesome lifestyle; meditation has now been accepted in scientific circles and practiced for thousands of years in connection with various cultures and religions around the world.
Various meditation and dharma teachers representing various Buddhist traditions will participate, including but limited to. Japanese, Chinese, Tibetan and American. All are welcome and participants should bring a cushion, portable chair or yoga mat for sitting.

For those interested, Meditate NYC and Peace Lanterns Festival events are happening in Gantry Plaza State Park on Sunday, September 16th.
