Founder of international Solstice Sing for Peace aims to shift our global focus Summer Soltice is from 11:00pm GMT on Friday, 20 June and 11:59pm on Saturday, 21 June. Sing with Good News!!!! A worldwide event for peace started by a single mother in a rural Massachusetts community is growing internationally. Rebekah L Fraser founded Solstice Sing for Peace this spring, as an all-inclusive grassroots movement empowering local organizations and individuals to work together to create 24-hours of singing for peace in 24 time zones. Fraser’s vision is for people around the world to sing in celebration of peace for 24 hours on the June solstice, and in so doing to shift the global focus to peace on the longest day of the year. Wherever they are in the world, and whoever they are, people can sing or chant in celebration of peace sometime between 11:00pm GMT on Friday, 20 June and 11:59pm on Saturday, 21 June. Individual Vocalists and Singing Groups of all genres and experience levels are invited to join, including rock bands, rap and hip-hop groups, school choruses, church choirs, community choruses, bluegrass groups, opera companies, Buddhist chanters, etc… Groups or individuals can sing together or sing in relays. All events will be organized on the local level, utilizing local talent and local sponsorship. Events can be as large or as small as people desire and can take place anywhere, including public locations or private homes. Events are currently scheduled in Japan, Germany, Canada, and all over the United States . The global organization, headquartered in Massachusetts and run by Fraser, offers organizing support, suggestions and resources to local singers and organizers around the world. After the 2008 event, Solstice Sing for Peace will collect recordings and photos submitted by registered singers and organizers and compile them into a format that can easily be released via web and (if possible) on DVD or audio CD on the International Day of Peace, September 21, 2008. Several organizations are endorsing the event, including American Choral Director’s Association, Sacred Earth Network, Food on Foot, We The World, and Aloha Peace House. A Solstice Sing for Peace event is currently being organized on Maui , and proceeds will benefit the Aloha Peace House. Michiko Pumpian, founder of World Peace Project for Children ( http://www.sadako.org www.sadako.org ), is also endorsing Solstice Sing for Peace, and plans to create a small concert in her hometown of Nagasaki, Japan . Solstice Sing for Peace is sponsored by MyLocalGroups.com, Tradeport USA , Smoothie Productions, Sunrise Media and Young Entrepreneurs Society of Orange, MA.
