On Wednesday, July 20th 2011, The Ali Forney Center (AFC) hosted the 2nd Annual OASIS gala, presented by Barclays Capital, at The Bowery Hotel Terrace.
The event is the organization’s premiere event of the summer and helps raise funds to provide housing and services to homeless LGBT throughout New York City. Hosted by RuPaul Drag Race’s Pandora Boxx, the sold out event featured live music by DJ Jonjon Battles and cocktails by Chopin Vodka. Through event and raffle ticket sales and the
silent auction, the AFC raised over $117K, a record for the
foundation.
Guests included: Hamish Bowles, Malan Breton, Mike Ruiz, Randy Jones, Jeffrey Costello, Robert Tagliapietra, Mickey Boardman, Sahara Davenport, Federico De Francesco, Derek Warburton, and Carl Siciliano, Founder and Executive
Director of the Ali Forney Center.
Thanks to the generous support of Barclays Capital, 100% of the funds
raised at the event supports the work of The Ali Forney Center. Barclays
Capital, the investment banking business of UK-headquartered Barclays
Bank plc, is supporting the event through its LGBT employee network,
Spectrum, with both financial support and employee volunteers.
The Ali Forney Center (AFC) was started in June 2002 in response to the lack
of safe shelter for LGBT youth in New York City. They have grown quickly to
become the nation’s largest and most comprehensive organization dedicated
to homeless LGBT youth. They are committed to providing LGBT youth with
safe, dignified, nurturing environments where their needs can be met and
where they can begin to put their lives back together. The center provides
short and long term housing in Manhattan and Brooklyn, plus free medical
care, HIV testing, mental health services, showers, food, computer access
and job training and placement at its drop-in centers in Chelsea and
Brooklyn. AFC hosts other benefits throughout the year such as the fall
fundraiser, A Place at the Table, and the spring benefit, Broadway Beauty
Pageant.
