and the rescue of all Albanian Jews during the Holocaust
I hope you will be able to attend–it promises to be an event worthy of your personal participation and hopefully coverage. Please see below, Off the record: Kara DioGuardi will be in attendance.
What: Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the independence of Albania, which emerged after 400 years of occupation by the Ottoman Empire on November 28, 1912.
Albania is the only nation that can claim that every Jew within its borders was saved during World War II. Few people know that the rescue in Albania could not have happened without the help of Albanians living in Nazi-occupied Kosova. Albanian Americans whose families, both Muslim and Christian, participated in the rescue of Jews in Albania and Kosova will be honored at this event. So will those who suffered under the Communist regime of Enver Hoxha and are working to bring genuine democracy to Albania.
Where: The event will take place on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. in the Kennedy Caucus Room (SR-325) in the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, DC.
Attendees, who will include the communal leadership of both the Jewish and Albanian communities, will hear from speakers highlighting Albania’s role in the rescue of its Jewish citizens.
