Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Shefali Tsabary reunite to continue the conversation about conscious parenting, and this time, the children speak out, in an all-new episode of the Emmy award-winning series “Oprah’s Lifeclass” airing Sunday, September 28 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
In part two, Oprah and today’s leading expert on family dynamics and personal development, Dr. Shefali Tsabary, reveal what children really want their parents to know about how they feel when they yell at and criticize them. As part of a live studio audience of concerned families, the children’s parents react to what their kids have to say on tape. Dr. Shefali, the best-selling author of “The Conscious Parent: Transforming Ourselves, Empowering Our Children,” moderates the heartfelt discussion and introduces new lesson points, illustrating how all parents can better connect with their kids. She also incorporates practical advice and “in the moment” parenting solutions from her book “Out of Control: Why Disciplining Your Child Doesn’t Work and What Will.”

EXCERPT: The Lessons Parents Can Learn From Their Children
OPRAH: On tonight’s Lifeclass, children tell us how they really feel when their parents yell and criticize. It’s probably the same as you felt when your parents did it. My favorite parenting expert, Dr. Shefali Tsabary, is back. Her revolutionary book that I’ve given to every parent I know. I’ve given it to so many people they say, you already gave it to me. It’s called “The Conscious Parent.” Hit the New York Times bestseller’s list. And Amazon.com The last time you were on here, Number 1. Amazon.com
OPRAH: Willing to listen and ready for a deeper connection with their children. So that’s what we’re after, right? A deeper connection.
DR. SHEFALI: Yes, you know, in therapy I have these children coming and sharing from their heart. And I often think to myself, if only their parents could be a fly on the wall to hear and bear witness to what works and what hurts. And so we wanted to offer you an opportunity to see what children feel. And I really applaud the parents who allowed their children to come and expose their hearts because it takes courage and real authenticity of spirit. And this is what these children are gonna show.
