Psychologist and Best-selling Author Discusses National Survey Revealing Americans Sexual Health Behaviors and Tips to Make Valentines Day More Memorable
Will You Be My Valentine?
This Valentines Day, American couples coast-to-coast will exchange flowers, chocolates, dinnerand hopefully, some fun times in the bedroom! But having sex doesn’t necessarily mean what you think. Those intimate times together are much more varied than youd imagine, and they can be a key factor in strengthening a relationship both new and seasoned ones.
According to the National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior (which appeared recently in The Journal of Sexual Medicine), having sex can encompass a variety of acts beyond intercourse. Conducted by a team of Indiana University researchers, the study found that there is an enormous variability in the sexual repertoires of U.S. adults, with more than 40 combinations of sexual activity described at adults most recent sexual event. Adult men and women rarely engage in just one sex act when they have sex, and for many women, traditional intercourse alone isnt enough, leading to a pleasure gap between the sexes. Women are more likely to reach climax when they engage in a variety of acts and use enhancements like sex toys. In fact, 93 percent of women who have used a toy agree they have a healthy relationship in the bedroom, and 80 percent use them with their partners.
Dr. Diana Kirschner, Ph.D, Love Expert, Media Psychologist and Best-selling Author, will discuss the surveys findings and what it means for our relationships.
