Registered Dietitian Wendy Bazilian Shares Her Top Tips for Living Well in 2009 Celebrity sightings and innovative films won’t be the only news from Sundance Film Festival this year. World-renowned supermodel Christie Brinkley has lent her lip to the famous got milk? campaign for the third time, unveiling her latest milk mustache ad from the star-studded Festival.More than 250 famous faces have proudly worn the milk mustache, and it’s no coincidence these healthy and fit celebrities bring to life true wellness. Live from the Sundance Film Festival, registered dietitian and author of The SuperFoodsRx Diet: Lose Weight with the Power of SuperNutrients, Dr. Wendy Bazilian, will discuss some tips for Americans who are struggling to keep New Year’s resolutions and maintain a healthier lifestyle. She’ll also discuss findings from a new report called the New Face of Wellness. -Fit fitness in little bites by breaking your exercise up into smaller segments throughout the day. A ten minute walk in the morning, another after lunch and a third before sitting down for dinner adds up to 30 minutes of activity and extra energy almost without even thinking about it. -Eat dinner together as a family. Research has shown that when we eat together, our meals are more nutritious. Meals prepared at home also tend to have higher levels of fiber, calcium, folate, iron and other vitamins along with increased amounts of fruits, vegetables and salads. They also tend to be lower in saturated fats. Eating together has shown to increase well-being, help reduce stress and has even been linked to significantly higher grades in school for kids. -Get to sleep and practice a healthy bedtime routine. Poor sleep can upset the body’s metabolism making it harder to tell hunger from fullness and making it easier to gain weight. Poor sleep may also increase the risk of certain chronic diseases. And, Grandma was right – warm milk around bedtime may actually help wind us down before bed making it easier to fall asleep. Calcium is a mineral associated with healthy sleep and having a relaxing routine itself each night can help. Bazilian can also discuss a comprehensive new report called the New Face of Wellness which highlights recent research about the health benefits of drinking milk including healthier diets, better bones, cardiovascular health, and better workout recovery.
