There are 200 million 911 calls placed in the United States each year, roughly 500,000 calls every day. Local fire departments and EMS squads across the country are the primary source for local community protection, yet they continually face financial and maintenance issues. Even with 75 percent of the nation’s firefighters serving in a volunteer capacity, maintaining the majority of America’s first responder squads is becoming increasingly expensive, from equipment to training. Some cities are looking to streamline these budgets with potentially dangerous consequences. First responders know the importance of driving safely and the necessity of keeping equipment in good working order to ensure both their own safety and that of the community. April 22-28 is National Tire Safety Week. You can do your part to support your local EMS or fire department by nominating them to receive a donation of new tires for their emergency service vehicles through the second annual Michelin Driving America’s Safety Program.
