An Eco-Friendly and Affordable Do-It-Yourself Project
Baby coming? Guests visiting for the summer holidays? Great looks fast.
Give your space a design facelift as we emerge from the down economy.
Graphic designer Ed Roth, the author of several DIY books including Stencil 101 Decor: Customize Walls, Floors and Furniture with Oversized Stencil Art, is available to show your viewers quick, unique, affordable ways to achieve the latest look in interior decor.
Other tips from Ed Roth:
— Picking An Accent Wall Or Small Space To Make-Over. Even part of an accent wall makes your project small and manageable, and can still offer a design lift. One strip of a repeat pattern down an entry wall will give your guests a welcome they will remember.
— Finding the Right Stencil. Whether it’s glam chain motifs on a wall or bold geometrics on a bathroom backsplash, stencils make a big impact.
— Choosing the Right Colors. Choose a neutral base with a colorful accent paint. Eds favorite color combinations include white and kelly green, warm grey and turquoise, pale moss and dark moss, and robins egg blue with brown. His go-to palette is comprised of more than 3,000 colors.
— Using the Right Paint. Ed’s top tip that makes the makeover easier is to use a quick-drying, time-saving zero-VOC paint. What’s more, it’s odorless and better for the environment.
— Pick one accent wall in your kitchen and use stencils and bold colors to make over the entire room, or quickly paint a border in your bathroom to make it look like a brand new space.
