The Bannerman Castle Trust Inc. is pleased to present a special Chefs Farm Fresh Dinner on Saturday, July 6th on Bannerman’s Island. This special Fundraiser Dinner will honor Mark and Sue Adams of Adams Greenhouses and Adams Fair Acre Farms for their help and support in establishing the Island’s beautiful gardens and for sponsoring the Bannerman’s Island Third Sunday Music Concert Series. The Adam’s generous donations of plants and flowers over the past several years have helped make Bannerman’s Island a unique Hudson Valley Garden destination, enjoyed by over 10,000 visitors every season! The public is invited and encouraged to attend this special dinner and can reserve individual tickets (or full tables at a discounted rate) online by visiting www.bannermancastle.org. Ticket prices include boat cruise, entertainment and dinner!
Thanks to the Adam’s – assorted flowering bushes, trees, perennials and annuals bring added interest for visitors between May and October of each year – so there is always something new in bloom on the island! A wonderful group of about 20 local garden volunteers keep the gardens looking their best throughout the season – and the Summer gardens are spectacular!
Lead Chef, Noah Sheetz and five noted chefs, including “Chopped” winner Paul Yeaple, the former owner of “Poppies” in Beacon and other fellow members of the Hudson Valley Chefs Consortium have been presenting “Chef’s Dinners” on Bannerman’s Island for over 10 years now. This special July Dinner will feature a five-course gourmet meal using only locally sourced ingredients. Attendees will enjoy a unique Farm Fresh Dinner experience while taking in some of the most spectacular views in the Hudson River Highlands, in full view of the beautiful ruins of Bannerman’s Castle. Live music will be performed by “Storm King Duo – featuring Judith Tulloch and Stephen Franchino” and “The Lucky Luna Band”.
In addition to celebrating Mark and Sue Adam’s generosity – the BCT will also be unveiling a special plaque dedicated to the memory of Roberta Reed and Marguerite Casale – local African American children who during the 1930’s would visit the children of Bannerman Island superintendents, Wayne and Marion Owen. The Owens family welcomed the girls as if they were their own and they remained friends for their entire lives.
Bannerman Island is located in the Hudson River between Beacon and Cold Spring, just South of Newburgh and directly across from Cornwall on Hudson, NY – just over an hour North of NYC. The BCT’s tour boat, the Estuary Steward will bring attendees to the Island from the Beacon Dock at the Beacon Waterfront (across from the Beacon Railroad station) for two different bookings – the first at 3:00 pm and the second at 4:30 pm.
A new Visitor Center and Museum is now open in the original Bannerman residence house and new restrooms were also installed on the island this past Spring! Again, reservations and tickets must be purchased through the Bannerman Castle website at www.bannermancastle.org. For additional information on this event and other Bannerman Island programs, please call the BCT’s Executive Director, Neil Caplan, at 845-831-6346.
The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, provides public tours of Bannerman’s Island from May – October. ADVANCE TICKET PURCHASES ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL TOURS AND EVENTS!
