FRANK & PATTY
They held hands
With the sturdy obligatory grip
Of children on a field trip
Function and safety minus spark and flame
They cried at all the right parts
And laughed at none
They sat in separate bathtubs
And bought separate VapoRub
They swallowed mini earthquakes
When one wished to gaze at the other
A bit too long
And feared their eventual rot
But not for the alcohol
They wouldn’t drink
So as to live longer
On a sail-less ship they’d cruise around
Dumping their sewage into the water
And he would clear his throat
Before a smile at her
As when he’d take a vitamin with water
They sat without speaking
They spoke without feeling
They slept to go away
They slept far from each other
They planted themselves
As two stumps
That could never of their own will
Grow closer:
Frank and Patty
Having tea biscuits
Feeling madness
