The G8 is the Super Bowl of all international conferences. And in 24 days, global leaders from the G8 countries will meet outside Washington, D.C. with President Obama to discuss critical issues for the coming year — the global economy, financial accountability, national security — issues that are important to the world’s biggest economies. But what’s missing from the agenda is fundamental to the health and wealth of every man, woman, and child in those countries and around the world — food.
Hunger is a pressing global problem, and G8 leaders have the power to help prevent another Horn of Africa famine. 578 children die every hour from simply not having enough to eat. Global hunger and malnutrition contribute to 5 million preventable deaths of children under five in developing countries each year. World Vision believes nourished stomachs will do more to stabilize developing economies than political chit chat at Camp David.
Hunger is a global issue, but there is something you can do to help fight it. World Vision is partnering with Save the Children, Bread for the World and the ONE Campaign to launch a petition drive on the White House website that calls on President Obama and other world leaders to make nutrition security a priority at this year’s G8 Summit.
