Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, will be the 11th emcee of the annual Women’s eNews 21 Leaders for the 21st Century Gala, to be held on May 3, 2012.
Ambassador Swanee Hunt will present Carol Jenkins with the Ida B. Wells Award for bravery in journalism. Reporters, Soledad O’Brien and Stacey Tisdale and Founder and Artistic Director of V-day, Eve Ensler, will act as the roving reporters handing out awards at the gala.
Women’s eNews’ event is unique. As a nonprofit news service, our presenters serve as reporters “on-the-ground”—presenting to each honoree at her/his table. Each honoree is highlighted individually, and every seat at the event provides a “front-row” experience to our guests.
Joanna Coles has been editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, the smart woman’s fashion and beauty magazine, since 2006. With a mission of empowerment, Coles has extended the magazine’s readership to 3.8 million and pushed its award-winning mix to cover the issues that matter to women most, big or small, from the best accessories of the season to international journalistic features to inspiring profiles of women on top.
Under Coles’ leadership, the Marie Claire brand has come to life well beyond the pages of the magazine. Currently a mentor on the hit show, Project Runway All Stars, she also produced and appeared on Style Network’s Running in Heels, one of the first reality television shows to go behind-the-scenes of the fashion and magazine industries. Several other projects based on MC features and programs are in development.
The 21 Leaders for the 21st Century will be honored at a Gala Dinner held at New York’s Jumeirah Essex House on Thursday, May 3, 2012.
