Want to ride in luxury as your writing is supported? Up to 2 dozen writers will be accepted, apply for free! How to APPLY. What began as a line in Alexander Chee’s interview in PEN Ten and was fueled by Twitter, is now an official Amtrak program. As many of you may know by now, our test-run for Amtrak Residency was done by Manhattan-based writer Jessica Gross, whose piece, ‘Writing The Lakeshore Limited’ was published in February by The Paris Review. What followed was overwhelming support on Twitter and in the media with #AmtrakResidency being featured in The Wire, The New Yorker, & Huffington Post among others. Today we are happy to announce that #AmtrakResidency will allow for up to 24 writers to take long-distance trains to work on their projects. Each writer’s round-trip journey will include accommodations on board a sleeper car equipped with a bed, a desk and outlets. We hope this experience will inspire creativity and most importantly fuel your sense of adventure! Round-trip train travel will be provided on an Amtrak long-distance route. Each resident will be given a private sleeper car, equipped with a desk, a bed and a window to watch the American countryside roll by for inspiration. Routes will be determined based on availability. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by a panel. Up to 24 writers will be selected for the program starting 3-17-14 through 3-31-15. A passion for writing and an aspiration to travel with Amtrak for inspiration are the sole criteria for selection. Both emerging and established writers will be considered. Featured in our premiere issue & great sculptures & writer, HKAG member David Pambianchi is a fan of AT THE EDGE and a general adventurer from skydiving to rock climbing to a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do to tagging monarch butterflies, acting, and a Citizen Tree Pruner LOL, NYC marathoner, cross U.S. and Europe motorcycle traveler and bull riding of course. He freelance writes about a variety of topics that range from chess to boxing. He is also polishing his first novel “Carrots & Apples”. Visit David’s Website: wix.com/davidmtc/writersedge.
