Get on Par with Prostate Cancer is a national awareness campaign to educate men about prostate cancer and the TEAM Approach in the management of the disease. Through Get on Par with Prostate Cancer, the American Urological Association (AUA) Foundation and Golf Magazine are teaming up to help individuals in the fight against prostate cancer. The heart of the campaign is an online, interactive “golf-themed” prostate cancer risk assessment tool, Prostate GOLF.
The risk assessment tool online at http://www.urologyhealth.org www.urologyhealth.org uses the desirability of low scores in golf as a parallel with the desirability of having low prostate-specific antigen (PSA) scores to help educate men about prostate cancer. Men who receive high scores in Prostate GOLF may be at a greater risk of developing prostate cancer and are urged to visit their urologists.
For each new Golf Magazine subscription generated from the program, Golf will donate $10 to the AUA Foundation to raise public awareness about urologic health issues. Get on Par with Prostate Cancer is part of an ongoing national awareness initiative, the TEAM Approach: Prostate Cancer Treatment, Education, Awareness and Management, that aims to encourage men with prostate cancer to seek the advice of a team of physicians a urologist, a radiation oncologist and a medical oncologist.
This multidisciplinary approach helps to ensure that all available treatment options are fully explored so that an optimal treatment plan may be implemented. Prostate cancer ranks third worldwide in cancer incidence and sixth in cancer mortality among men. According to the AUA Foundation, more than 234,000 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year and more than 27,000 will die of the disease. http://www.urologyhealth.org
