1,500,000 CHILDREN ARE ORPHANED, VULNERABLE AND IN DIRE NEED OF BASIC CARE IN MALAWI, AFRICA YOUTH OF MALAWI CO-FOUNDER JON BIONDO DISCUSSES HOW YOU CAN HELP BRIGHTEN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN OF THIS IMPOVERISHED NATION THIS HOLIDAY SEASON http://www.youthof malawi.org DECEMBER 1, 2009 IS WORLD AIDS DAY The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is here! Even in this economy, most of us will experience the joys of the holiday season with shopping, travel, parties and family get togethers! Its hard to imagine that just across the globe 1,500,000 children are suffering many orphaned due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic plaguing the impoverished nation of Malawi, Africa, one of the most densely populated countries on the continent. The national rate of infection results in 85,000 deaths from AIDS each yearenough people to fill an average stadium. HIV/AIDS has had a particularly devastating impact on children who have lost both parents to the disease. Orphans and vulnerable children have no one to turn to for guidance when dealing with harsh living conditions. Youth of Malawi Inc. is a Non-Profit Corporation dedicated to enriching the lives of the young people of Malawi, Africa. The groups mission is to provide the youth of this impoverished nation with recreational activities to brighten their lives. In April 2010, Youth of Malawi is sponsoring their inaugural event a trip to Malawi to take 300 orphans to the beach on the shores of Lake Malawi. Malawi Beach Party will be a 2 day adventure bringing children from rural Malawi to Lake Malawi for the first time in their lives for a day of swimming, games, food, music and love! Though these orphans live only two hours from the beach, they have never experienced it. This experience is aimed to further their social development and help promote a more positive outlook on life. Listeners can sponsor a child for just $39.00, which will buy transportation, a knapsack, sunglasses, a towel, lunch, admission to the beach and pool, beach toys, floaties and polaroid pics to take home. The sponsor will then receive a picture and/or note from a child attending the trip. Youth of Malawi needs your help! Jon Biondo is available to discuss how your listeners can help find corporate sponsors or make a financial donation as well as discuss the devastating issues impacting Malawi including: HIV/AIDS + Disease: A generation of parents lost to the rampant epidemic of HIV/AIDS. Poverty: Desperately poor rural living conditions isolated by primitive infrastructure and overcrowded peri-urban slums Orphans: 1,500,000 orphaned and vulnerable children in dire need of basic care. Children’s Mental Health: Children have no one to turn to for guidance when dealing with harsh living conditions. Education: Scarce educational resources and opportunities, especially for girls.
