We’ve spent lots of time working on overall improvements to enhance your Gurney’s experience. The LaPasticceria area has been completely rebuilt and expanded and is now rebranded as the Gurney’s Beach Bakery and Natural Cafe. Still serving all of our house baked specialties and Starbucks coffees but with an expanded offering of fresh juices and natural menu items. Our Riviera Patio is being reborn with a brand new Ipe deck, luxurious Dedon lounging furniture and a king size stone fire pit as its centerpiece. This area will be available for continental breakfast service, wine and cocktails and a lite bites menu all day long.
As you’ll read in our Food Zombies article, we also spent some of our quiet season time working on our holistic and detoxifying food offerings. After the detox week described in that piece our sous chef Michael was shipped off to the macrobiotic, Kushi Institute to learn even more about preparing these healthy meals. We are happy to include vegan, gluten-free and macrobiotic offerings on our new menus and can customize a personal meal plan to suit your needs upon advance request. Also watch for the announcement of our multi-day detox programs in the fall and winter.
Another exciting development scheduled for this summer is the introduction of an all new, all natural Gurney’s spa product line. For the past several months, we have been working on perfecting this natural line of hair and body products which will incorporate the beneficial properties of sea kelp and other pure ingredients from
nature in a signature line of products. These new products will be used in our guest rooms and will also be available for purchase through the mail, internet and in our spa shoppe. Stay tuned for more info on this exciting launch.
As I write this column, we are preparing for a very unique event on Friday, May 25th; the premiere east coast screening of Christopher Garetano’s new movie, “The Montauk Chronicles”. This fascinating docudrama explores the urban legend of the Montauk project. It’s the story of time travel experiments and alien visits at the former Camp Hero Air Force Base out by the lighthouse. While we’ll never really know the truth about what did or didn’t occur there, one thing is for sure; time certainly moves slower in Montauk. Most people agree that as soon as you cross the Napeague Stretch and continue east into our magical hamlet, the clocks slow down, the stress begins to ease and the worries of our everyday lives start to fade away. I like to call this phenomenon “Montauk Time” and I encourage you to experience it frequently with visits to our very special resort and spa by the sea.
Happy reading and have a wonderful summer
