According to a survey by The Parenting Group, a majority of fathers believe an “anti-dad” bias exists in society today. However, an infographic from OnlineSchools.com shows how new fathers are breaking down stereotypes when it comes to parenting, home life and even sharing online.
OnlineSchools.com, a digital resource for online education from kindergarten to graduate school, recently launched an infographic highlighting how today’s newest dads are taking on more parenting and domestic duties than their predecessors. “Proud Papas” also charts how the most recent of America’s estimated 67.8 million fathers are transforming the online social space.
A March 2012 study by The Parenting Group revealed that 82 percent of first-time dads — and 66 percent of all dads — believe they’ve been mislabeled as breadwinners removed from parenting and domestic responsibilities. Eighty-two percent of new dads also feel they share parental duties with their partners equally.
“Modern dads are involved significantly in their child’s development,” said Seth Restaino, spokesperson for OnlineSchools.com. “They are taking a more dynamic role in the way their family is being raised.”
Not only are men doing more as parents, but they are also sharing their experiences online. The infographic shows that many dads are updating their statuses and regularly posting family photos and videos online. In addition, “daddy bloggers” have joined their female counterparts as active members of the blogosphere, sharing advice, tips, stories and anecdotes about their experiences.
“Parenting is not just a mom’s world anymore,” added Restaino. “Today’s fathers do far more than papas of the past, and many have become respected members of the online parenting community.”
