Help from the NFL players couldn’t come at a more critical time. With 14 million U.S. children living in poverty every day, many children risk disappointment this Christmas morning. Unemployment is still at all-time highs, 9.6% with forecasts projecting it to remain at elevated levels throughout 2010. For the third straight year, this protracted economic downturn continues to put financial and emotional strain on families, leaving many without the resources to deliver the magic of the holiday. Since 1947, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve units have conducted Toys for Tots campaigns in communities nationwide to bring the joy of Christmas to America’s most disadvantaged children. This boost from the NFL with Touchdown for Tots is just what they need!
On December 7, Lt. Gen. Pete Osman, President of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, is joined by NFL players Terrell Thomas, Jerome Felton and Justin Forsett to get your listeners fired up for the season of giving!
Touchdown for Tots will run through December 24, and fans can support the exciting national toy drive in numerous ways! NFL teams from coast to coast will be conducting toy drives now through December 19th. Fans can bring a new, unwrapped toy on certain game days when local Marines will be at the stadium to collect toys for kids in the communities where they are donated. Some teams will be hosting special shopping trips with players as well.
