On behalf of the NGO Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns-NY (CSVGC-NY), a Committee of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO), we are pleased to inform you that you have been named as a recipient of the 2011 Spirit of the United Nations Award. The Spirit of the United Nations Award is given each year by our committee to those individuals whose lives and works at the United Nations best expresses the core principles, spirit and vision upon which the United Nations was founded. These spiritual principles and values are stated in the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. You have been selected, because you are an outstanding example of someone who is deeply dedicated to these principles.
The Past recipients of the Spirit of the United Nations Award are His Excellency, Ambassador Mr. Anwarul K. Chowdhury, former Ambassador and Under-Secretary General and Representative of the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Nations and Island States (2007), His Excellency, Ambassador Mr. Hilario G. Davide, Jr., Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the UN (2008), His Excellency Mr. Augustine P. Mahiga, former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations, (2009), and His Excellency, Dr. T. Hamid Al Bayati, Ambassador and Permanenent Representative Permanent Mission of Iraq to the United Nations (2010).
In 2009, in recognition of the evolving cooperation between UN Ambassadors, UN Staff, and the UN Affiliated NGO Community, we expanded the Spirit of the UN Awards. In 2010 the award recipients were Mrs. Tsu Wei Chang, Social Affairs Officer, Division for the Advancement of Women, UN Staff (retired), Mr. Hiro Sakurai, United Nations Representative, Soka Gakkai, (NGO Representative.)

The award will be presented to you at a special Awards Ceremony from 1-3PM, on Thursday, October 20th at the UN Church Center, 2nd Floor. at 777 UN Plaza (44th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues.)
The Spirit of the United Nations Award Ceremony will launch the Week of Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns-NY (WoS), which is a Special Project of our Committee. The WoS will take place from October 20 –28, 2011 in New York City. The theme of this year’s celebration is Visionary Leadership that Makes a Difference at the United Nations.
In addition, this year, we will be acknowledging the Founder and Chair Emerita of the CoNGO Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns-NY, Ms. Diane Williams , Source of Synergy Foundation, for her visionary leadership.
The WoS is timed to coincide every year with the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The WoS will have special events and programs created by our various working groups and co-sponsors which will directly address this year’s theme. The WoS seeks to maximize the creation of partnerships and cooperative engagement between the various members of our UN community and beyond, in recognition that such positive, collaborative efforts are essential in the achievement of global peace and human solidarity.
