Americans have been voted the world’s “coolest nationality” in an international poll which also names the Brazilians the coolest Latin Americans, and the “lowly” Belgians as the globe’s least cool.
30,000 people, across 15 countries were asked to name the coolest nationality in an online poll conducted by Badoo.com (www.badoo.com), the world’s largest social network for meeting new people with 121 million users worldwide.
Americans top the Badoo vote, ahead of the Brazilians in second and Spanish in third. The Belgians rank last, with even Poles and Canadians judged cooler than them!
“We hear a lot in the media about anti-Americanism,” says Lloyd Price, Badoo’s Director of Marketing. “But we sometimes forget how many people across the world consider Americans seriously cool.”
Americans embody cool in many fields – from music to movies to street fashion and TV to technology.
“America,” says Price “boasts the world’s coolest leader, Barack Obama; the coolest rappers, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg; and the coolest man in technology, Steve Jobs of Apple, the man who even made geeks cool.”
America’s victory in the Badoo poll is a fitting tribute to the nation that has given the world more icons of cool than any other. These include jazz and blues, rap to rock ‘n roll, blue jeans and tail-fins, high-fives and hip-hop, Ray-Bans and iPads, Steve McQueen and Jason Bourne, skateboarding and surfing.
Brazilians are ranked the second coolest nationality in the Badoo poll and the coolest Latin Americans, ahead of Mexicans and Argentinians.
“It’s not hard to understand why,” says Price. Brazilians brought us the Rio carnival and Copacabana beach, Samba and soccer reinvented as “the beautiful game.”
