Chengdu Tourism- New York Experience Center opened in Manhattan
Chengdu, a city with more than 2300 years of history, also known as “the land of abundance” – China’s capital city of Sichuan Province, the national central city, western China’s cultural, business, finance, science and education center, transportation and communications hub and the largest airport, rank the first in China’s western cities. In 2017, nourished by its innovative genes and inclusive temperament, Chengdu is building itself as a national central city that embodies the new concept of development. More open investment channels are open to the world; talent, capital, technology and projects from all over the world are gathered in the city which are full of innovation and entrepreneurial opportunities.
On December 5, hosted by Chengdu Tourism Bureau, Chengdu Culture&Tourism Group, Wall Street CG Group and New Legend·New York, the opening ceremony of Chengdu Tourism- New York Experience Center was officially held at 88 7the Avenue in Manhattan.
Mr. Li Liyan, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, spoke on behalf of Chengdu and welcomed distinguished guests and friends in New York. Former New York state governor David Paterson;prominent philanthropist Charles Sullivan;Kelly Wright, twice-Emmy-winning Fox News anchor;Zhang Tihua, a well-known Chinese-American journalist who serves CBS and ABC television networks;FélixW. Ortiz,Assistant Speaker of the New York State Assembly;Liao Shenzhan, vice president of the Confucius Institute of China Institute;Jason Chen, alumni association of Sichuan and Chongqing in U.S.A;Professor Huanghe,Chairman of Peking University Alumni Association in New York and He Chenwen, President of Chengdu Bar Food Group attended the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon for the experience center. In addition, Danny Kadishson, director of economic development at the Mayor’s Office in New York, and the famous Chinese American Ms. Kan Yu-Sai also sent representatives to attend and send a congratulatory letter. The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr.Jeannie Yi,Vice-Chairman of the Chengdu People‘s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and President of Wall Street CG Group.
Dr. Jeannie Yi was the best young teacher of Peking University. In 1985, she was the first to receive a full scholarship to study in the United States. After working on Wall Street for many years , she accumulated elite contacts in New York City. For years she has tried her best to promote Sichuan and Chengdu in U.S.A. To open a Chengdu experience center in New York, she joined the New York overseas Chinese community and gained support from Peking University Alumni Association in New York to invite the celebrity in New York political, business and media field to bless the opening of Chengdu experience center.
Representatives from New York’s overseas Chinese community, major New York chambers of commerce, mainstream media and travel organizations from China and the United States gathered together to witness the official opening of this Experience Center. Mr.Liao Zuhua, a famous Chinese national professional opera master,impressed all the guests with his unique Sichuan Opera skills in face-changing& fire-breathing show. Guests sampled the delicious Sichuan Cuisine which were specially designed by New Legend·New York and discussed various issues about Chengdu tourism, culture, investment and future development.
For this special night of Chengdu, the founder of the World Chinese Culture and Art Foundation (president), 2010 winner of the United Nations 50 Peace Contribution Award, the famous jewelry designer Mr. Lv Mingjian specially written calligraphy for the Chengdu Experience Center as an opening gift. photography artist Jiang Zhongde, who accepted the commission by the World Panda Foundation to focus on panda-themed works of art, created two special panda pyrography for the Experience Center.

As a window of Chengdu to New York City, Chengdu Tourism- New York Experience Center is an mufti-functional platform integrating city image promotion, tourism development, food experience, cultural exchange, investment and financing in the United States. Through the “Gourmet Experience” , people from New York City and the whole America will have the opportunity to experience Chengdu’s spicy food and unique local culture.
The center is located in the “Soho core area” and near the Washington Square Park, which is a paradise for artists worldwide. Large and small museums can be found everywhere, food from the United States, South Korea, China, Britain, Italy, Mexico, India, Malaysia and Vietnam specialties next to shop. Washington Square Park is the most important and distinctive large park in more than 1,900 public parks in New York – which coinciding with Chengdu’s unique urban character infused with Sichuan cuisine; and the The New sichuan cuisine have injected a sense of mystery and founding element to New York’s historic classics and the tide of creativity in New York’s global markets.
The layout and decoration of the Chengdu Tourism -New York Experience Center is mainly based on the traditional Chinese style. Through the cultural symbols of the Three Kingdoms Characters, Sichuan Opera, Giant Pandas and the bamboo, the essence of Chengdu culture is presented in a way that ordinary western people can easily understand and enjoy. The aim of the center is to make New Yorkers understand Chengdu, travel to Chengdu and then fall in love with Chengdu.
This December can be New York City’s “Chengdu Month.” Other 3 Chengdu City Promotion Activities will be co-held in the newly opened experience center with Hainan Airlines, Silicon Dragon, China Institute, Artosino and IBM Global President Club, including Chengdu Food Festival, Chengdu Tourism Promotion banquet and Chengdu art exhibition.
In this warm Christmas month, spicy delicious Sichuan cuisine and colorful cultural activities will make New York and Chengdu more closely linked.
