Rick D. Chandler, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Buildings, addressed the Brooklyn business community at the latest edition of the popular Brooklyn Newsmakers speaker series on January 10. The Commissioner touched on a variety of timely topics, including DOB NOW, which aims to move many DOB services online, as well as the NYC Construction Dashboard, a new aggregation of a wide variety of data collected by DOB. Chandler remarked that he had once worked mere blocks from the MakerSpace at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, where the event was held.
Brooklyn Newsmakers is exclusively sponsored by Investors Bank, and is produced in partnership with NYU Tandon and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
“Brooklyn’s one of the most dynamic places on Earth and it’s a pleasure to talk to the borough’s business leaders about how we at DOB are supporting their work. Our agency is committed to delivering on our twin mandates of promoting construction safety and responsible development. What’s more, we’re modernizing DOB to ensure that New Yorkers can do 100% of their business with us online, know where their projects stand without having to rely on intermediaries, and get consistent answers from us no matter who reviews their projects,” said Buildings Commissioner Rick D. Chandler, PE.
“Well-kept and resilient commercial facilities are integral to a thriving business environment, and it was excellent for the Brooklyn business community to benefit from Commissioner Chandler’s expertise on the borough,” said Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Andrew Hoan. “Many thanks to Investors Bank, NYU Tandon and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership for making his talk possible.”
“We’re thrilled to host Commissioner Chandler, who can speak confidently to a range of Building Code topics due to his long and thorough experience,” said Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Denise Arbesu. “The Commissioner’s specialized knowledge is very valuable to us and our membership as we continue to promote thriving economic development throughout Brooklyn.”
Investors Bank Senior Vice President and New York Market Executive Ana Oliveira said, “We are honored to sponsor the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s Newsmaker Series in 2018, which brings together key business owners and executives. The program consistently features compelling presentations by exceptional leaders who serve Brooklyn, its businesses and communities. Our team looks forward to meeting new leaders and connecting with our clients and good friends at future Newsmakers events.”

As a licensed PE, he shares our dedication to making New York City a more livable, sustainable, and safer place, and he stands as a stellar example of how engineering know-how can be used for the benefit of society,” said Katepalli Sreenivasan, Dean of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
“DOB Commissioner Rick Chandler’s strong leadership and vision has helped guide Downtown Brooklyn’s development. We’re proud to welcome him to the Brooklyn Newsmakers program and look forward to continuing to work with him to promote a sustainable, accessible, and resilient Brooklyn,” said Regina Myer, President of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
