anthem Heal Us All. Senator Blumenthal said ‘This is the song the world needs to
hear right now’, calling: ‘Brilliant. Powerful.’
In 2019 Senator Richard Blumenthal presented Paul Hampton with a Lifetime
Achievement Award for Distinguished Service to Women and the Arts. Blumenthal
recently endorsed Paul Hampton’s song ‘Brave as a Butterfly’ that he created to
encourage people to get vaccinated. Paul Hampton’s performance and interview with
Senator Blumenthal was aired as a Public Service Announcement on CBS News in
the US in August 2021.
Paul Hampton is listed in the top 100 major architects of American rock and roll by
the British rock journal ‘Foot Soldiers and Kings’. The specially produced 2 minute,
38 second video recording ‘Heal Us All’ is performed by Paul Hampton together with
prominent musicians including Charlie Bisharat on the Stradivarius, the former first
chair viola player of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra Kris Wilkerson and
background singers led by Tabitha Fair with musical arrangement by Jimmy Nichols.
Speaking from his studio in Nashville, Paul Hampton said ‘What’s most interesting
about the making of this recording, is the sheer power of the song itself. I harbored
an enormous amount of pent-up energy and frustration after a year of lockdown, plus
a seething anger at how cruel we as human beings are being to each other, as well
as the climate. From the start, the soul of the song spoke to me in a way that
challenged every emotion I had, dominating and commanding me on the day of the
recording, to the point where I had no choice but to satisfy it flawlessly. The song
and video have evolved in mood, tempo and attitude to ultimately produce a unique
global anthem to re-inspire the world. This is not just another song. ‘Heal Us All’ is
an experience, it is a space your heart will want to return to again and again. The
message is simply this: we all need the same kind of never-ending, heart-mending,
body and soul blending healing love… Heal Us All… Heal Our World…’
Charlie Feldman, the recently retired BMI Creative Director said from New York:
‘Paul Hampton’s anthemic recording of HEAL US ALL is a timely gift for the world.
Sometimes the greatest communicator of all is a song. And this beautiful Hampton
composition is just that. Its message is pure and full of love and hope.’
Circuit Court Judge Thomas Brothers of Nashville Tennessee said ‘I recently had the
opportunity to view Paul Hampton’s stunning musical video which dramatically drove
home the toll that climate change is taking on the world’s collective soul. The
devastation across the globe desperately cries out to all mankind for healing and
restoration. My hope for our world was buoyed by Heal Us All!’ He continued ‘I
sincerely hope that COP 26 will prove to be a great success and unite countries
against this common threat.’
Paul Hampton has a long history of writing poignant songs that address, love, loss,
hope and healing. In 2008, the Tony Award-winning actress and singer Idina Menzel
recorded Hampton’s song “Hope” for the Major League Baseball ‘Stand Up to
Cancer’ charitable program.
Since 1958 Paul Hampton has touched hearts around the world with his music and
film and television roles. In 1972 he co-starred with Diana Ross in ‘Lady Sings the
Blues’ as Billie Holiday’s drug-pushing friend Harry Hanley. Paul starred in Shivers,
Hit! , More Dead Than Alive and his television appearances include Never Forget,
The Doris Day Show, My Mother The Car, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,
McCloud, Ironside, Combat! And Benson.
Born in Oklahoma City in 1937, Paul Hampton was signed to Columbia Records
while still a sophomore at Dartmouth College and wrote music with Hal David and
Burt Bacharach. He wrote hits for Don Gibson, Gene Pitney, Johnny Tillotson and
his songs have been recorded by Sammy Davis Jr, Bette Midler, Eddy Arnold, Tom
Jones, Merle Haggard, Ricky Nelson, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.
Hampton’s song Sea of Heartbreak was used in the soundtrack for films The Butcher
Boy, A Perfect World, Heartbreak Ridge and Clay Pigeons. It was recorded by Leo
Sayer and in 2010 singer Rosanne Cash performed the song with Bruce Springsteen
for which they received a Grammy nomination for the best pop duo.
Paul Hampton believes ‘Heal Us All’ is his finest work and hopes that the song will
benefit all those in need of healing and everyone at COP26 committed to the job of
healing our planet.
