As Social Work Month 2014 comes to a close, we’d like to reflect on its theme of “All People Matter.” CancerCare was founded on this same belief in 1944,which is why for more than 70 years, CancerCare’s professional oncology social workers have helped anyone affected by cancer, regardless of cancer type or stage, completely free of charge. Each day, our professional oncology social workers:
- Provide in-person and telephone counseling to help people manage stress and anxiety
- Lead patient, caregiver and bereavement groups to help people connect with others
- Help patients and their loved ones find reliable cancer information and financial resources
“In my work as a social worker, I witness time and again the resiliency of the human spirit. My passion is to help people normalize their experience, try to see their world through their eyes and provide them with hope.
