For Immediate Release:
The Bayside Village Business Improvement District (BID) is pleased to announce its Fall schedule
of events. These events and initiatives have been comprehensively thought out, painstakingly and
meticulously researched and specifically designed to serve the merchants and property owners of
the Bell Boulevard Business Corridor while attracting and appealing to the widest diversity of
demographics with the greatest geographic reach appropriate to aid the enhancement and stimulus
of commerce for the Village of Bayside and to incorporate conscious service to the local
community in so doing.
The event roll out is as follows:
1) The First Annual Bayside Village Fire and Safety Awareness Day Music Festival –
Saturday, October 1st, 2011 the Bayside BID in conjunction with The Bayside Fire Department and
All Saints Church will temporarily close 40th Ave between Bell Blvd and 214th place from 12 noon
to 6 pm in order to hold a block party for Fire and Safety Awareness where our local Firefighters
and Heroes from our Local Engine 306 will talk to families about fire and safety coming into the
Fall season and escorting our children through a wonderfully educational life size rubber “Hook and
Ladder” Fire Engine that will be located at the intersection of 214th place and 40th Ave between
1pm and 4 p.m.
The event is being co-sponsored and partially funded by Senator Tony Avella who will speak at the
event that is also being co-sponsored by The Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge Dealership.
To draw attention to the event and bring a fun and entertaining element to the festivities
“Live Music” will be performed throughout the day at the intersection of Bell Blvd and 40th Ave
starting at 12 noon and ending at approx 5 p.m.
2) The First Annual Bayside Village Retail Expo –
Sunday, October 9th, 2011 The Bayside BID in association with The Bayside Historical Society and
Alley Pond Environmental (and with the donation of tables and chairs from All Saints Church) will
temporarily close 41st Ave from outside Donovan’s parking lot to Bell Blvd, continuing across (but
not blocking) Bell Blvd from the corner of 7/11 to 213th Street from 12 Noon to 6 pm
This event is specifically designed to introduce and reacquaint the local community with Bell Blvd’s
rich and diverse portfolio of retailers and to showcase those retail businesses by closing 41st Ave for
the day, turning it into an outdoor pedestrian mall with tables open out on the street to display the
goods our stores offer shoppers. This event is strictly for retailers. No sales or exchange of
merchandise will take place. It is for promotional purposes only. The event will also offer “Live
Fall Season – 2011
Music” that will be performed at the newly restored LIRR Train Station Park that the BID has
recently had landscaped (by the incredibly generous efforts of Ronald Keil and Keil Bros Garden
Center and Nursery) and is in the process of transforming back into a beloved center piece and
meeting place for Bayside.
3) The Second Annual Bayside Village Arts and Crafts Fair
and LIRR Bayside Station Beautification Project Inauguration
Sunday, October 16th, 2011 The Bayside BID will continue it’s successful production of it’s annual
Arts and Crafts Fair expanding it this year from it’s spot in the parking lot and street adjacent to the
Chase Bank on 41st Road and Bell Blvd to include the closing of 41st Ave from Bell Blvd to 213th
street and the LIRR Train Station Park.
The emphasis of this years fair will shift slightly to the visual and performing, cultural arts with
entertainment that will expand from some soft acoustic musical groups and individual local musical
artisans to include some of the performing arts and dance groups home based in our own business
district and, with our deepest thanks to Lou Cattaruzza, be highlighted and headlined
by a spectacular performance from world renowned Carnegie Hall and Lincoln
Center Soprano Chen Min who comes to us from recently acclaimed performances
at the United Nations.
The event is being co-sponsored by Chase Bank and Helms Brothers Mercedes Benz and managed
by Showtiques Event Coordinators.
This event will bring a great sense of pride to the residents, business and property owners in Bayside
and is not to be missed
4) Bell Blvd’s Halloween Window Decoration Contest.
Halloween Weekend October 28- Oct 31 2011
The Bayside Bid is sponsoring a contest with a challenge to all the storefront merchants along Bell
Blvd to see who can offer the most creative and favorite Halloween window display.
The contest will give local residents, shoppers and spectators the opportunity to vote for their
favorite Halloween Window Display on the BID’s Website.
