Double Entente Films is excited to announce the New York premiere of “Rag Doll” on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 at Mo Mi Redstone during the Queens World Film Festival. The film recieved six award nominations including Best Feature, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Female Actor, Best Screenplay, and Best Ensemble. “Rag Doll” tells the story of Nora. Nora is that girl: the one who works overtime to help her family and leaves little for herself. With her one free hour a day, she takes out life’s hardships at the local mixed martial arts gym, where she can lose herself, if just for that hour.
When complications at work and home threaten her ability to maintain her carefully constructed life, Nora enters a championship tournament as a novice to fight losing the world she has built. But, when Nora makes matters worse for herself, she must learn not just what she is fighting for, but what she is actually fighting against! A support team of MMA coaches, fighters & consultants made the experience authentic for everyone involved. With 3 female leads and a male romantic interest that is Asian-American, “Rag Doll” features a diverse cast that is reflective of the actual MMA world.
Director Bailey Kobe says, “I wanted to make a film that explored the violence in the lives of the women that enrolled themselves in martial arts classes. Growing up in this world, many of them were in there for reasons beyond a good workout, and I have never seen MMA fighters, let alone many female athletes, where sports become part of their identity in a film”.
“Rag Doll” kicked off its world tour at the Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival on January 26th, garnering Best Feature and Best Actor wins.
