In recognition of the nations teachers, the National Education Association (NEA) is teaming up with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to encourage individuals from coast-to-coast to say thank you on National Teacher Day (Tuesday, May 8). NEA has a number of activities planned for National Teacher Day, including: Teacher Day Gift Poll. An apple? Flowers? A class present? A new online poll, conducted by NEA in anticipation of its National Teacher Day and the PTAs Teacher Appreciation Week (May 7May 11), asked teachers what gift they would want most. The answer may just surprise you! Nations Largest Teacher Thank You Card. Together with the Parent Teacher Association, NEA is asking individuals to take part in creating a larger than life teacher thank you card that will visit key markets in 2008. Each year, NEAs National Teacher Day honors teachers and promotes the profession of teaching. The celebration also helps call attention to the National Teacher Day tagline, Great Teachers Make Great Public Schools. Through National Teacher Day, NEA and PTA will raise awareness about the importance of having teachers in classrooms who reflect of Americas diversity. As president, Weselak leads the organization in supporting parent involvement so children can succeed and learning environments can improve. She is a National PTA honorary life member, the highest award bestowed by members of the organization, as well as an honorary life member of 18 state PTAs. Weselak has served on PTA’s National Board of Directors since June 1997. Her PTA experience includes serving as past president of Illinois PTA and past president and current member of Manor Hill PTA. Her areas of expertise include parent involvement, leadership development, early childhood education, and media literacy/critical viewing. Weselak also chaired PTAs National Field Service Committee. Outside of PTA, she is a past chairman of the board of directors of the Oak Brook Area Association of Commerce and Industry, and holds memberships in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Association of Women Business Owners, Chicago Chapter, the American Society for Training and Development, and the National Association of Parliamentarians.
