Dr. Judith Kuriansky will be the keynote speaker at a special event at the Art Students League of New York City on Sunday, May 20, when she will present about her mission in Japan on the anniversary of the tragic tsunami/earthquake to help children recover.
The event will debut an exhibit of “Scroll for Japan,” a 30- foot- long scroll by painter Jave Yoshimoto, that depicts tragic events and hopes for survivor.
Also featured at the event is a special performance of music by international composer Russel Daisey with Japanese musicians, and a performance by the award-winning Yuko Takahasi Dance Company from Japan. On display are origami cranes made by children from Japan; attendees will learn to make origami cranes that will be sent to children in Haiti who are also recovering from an earthquake.
The event benefits the Music & Art Without Borders program of the Japanese not-for-profit organization, The Recovery Assistance Center of Miyagi (Ganabaro Miyagi), as well as the Art Students League’s international scholarship program.
