Despite having won her fifth Wimbledon Single’s Championship, Venus Williams was modest in her celebration and embraced the victory with reserved emotion. The opponent she had just beaten was none other than her younger sister, Serena. After a 5 year hiatus from what has become known as the “Sister Slam Show,” the two once again faced each other on the center court at Wimbledon, England. The match was intensely contested, and it became apparent that through most of the match, the sisters didn’t view each other as siblings, but rather as fierce rivals. However, when it was all said and done, the title had indeed remained in the family, and the two shared a hug after the match. They then went on to claim their seventh Doubles Championship, beating Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur. The reported payday for the Williams family after the two matches was an estimated $2.5 million. However, it was not all about the glory and compensation for the two sisters. “I’m definitely more in tune with my sister’s feelings because one of us has to win and one of us has to lose,” said Venus. “You could never detract from winning a Wimbledon, so of course it doesn’t detract from that. But I’m definitely thinking about how my sister’s feeling.”
