Hands on New York Day 2008 New York Cares wants you — on Saturday, April 12! That’s when they are mobilizing 5,500 volunteers to help give our city’s public spaces their annual spring-cleaning. Please join New York Cares for a day of good green fun as they revitalize local parks, gardens, playgrounds, community centers, homeless shelters, and schools. For more information and to sign-up NYC Young Women’s Volunteer Summit As part of Global Youth Service Day, Children for Children, the NYC Commission on Women’s Issues, the Mayor’s Volunteer Center of NYC, and CosmoGIRL! magazine are organizing the first annual NYC Young Women’s Volunteer Summit. During the event, 1,000 young women (ages 12-18) will participate in a morning of educational workshops and panel discussions about women’s issues lead by female community leaders. In the afternoon, youth will engage in hands-on service projects related to the topics discussed. The items created will benefit women in their communities and/or around the world. Welcome and assist 30,000 cyclists on their 42-mile Tour through New York City by helping at one of five rest areas, the start or finish lines. Volunteers pass out drinks and snacks, provide information, help with traffic flow at various locations, set up, break down and clean up rest areas. Volunteer opportunities are available in all five boroughs with varying shifts depending on location. Marshals (volunteers on bicycles) are also needed along the Tour route to assist cyclists and direct traffic flow. Lunch will be provided, plus a great t-shirt and cap.
