Ambassador Andrew Kao speaks to Good News in Times Square. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO-NY) will be hosting a press conference in their B1 auditorium, titled “Celebrating 100 years of the ROC: Time Square Press Conference.” TECO-NY will be sponsoring Taiwan Tourism advertisements to be broadcast on the ThomsonReuters Sign and the Nasdaq Tower in Times Square. The ads will run in the days leading up to Taiwan’s National day (Oct. 8-10), as well as from Thanksgiving of this year (Nov. 24th) until January 1st, 2012.
From Oct. 6-10th, the three minute film made by the Council for Cultural Affiars, “Crossroads of the World,” will be broadcast on the Thomson Reuters Sign twice an hour at 20 minutes and 40 minutes passed the hour. This advertisement, created to celebrate the ROC’s Centennial, covers a multitude of topics, including Taiwan’s geographical and natural beauty, the democratic accomplishments of the first democratic republic in Asia, her strength in researching and manufacturing of high tech products, the positive results of true multiculturalism, cultivating talent through public education, respecting the co-existence of man and nature, and competitive economic development. It aims to show in a short period of time the development and accomplishments of the ROC.
500,000 people from all over the world pass through the brilliantly lit up Time Square every day. We trust that our exposure here will bring Taiwan into the consciousness of tens of thousands of travelers.
From October 8-10, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau will be broadcasting 30 second spots that will run simultaneously on both the Thomson Reuters Sign and the Nasdaq Tower. The spots will run five times each hour and will feature the 30 second Republic Of China (TAIWAN) Centennial and the 30 second Time for Taiwan- My Beautiful Island.
According to the director of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, Thomas Chang, the spirit of the Taiwanese people is the most attractive element for visitors to Taiwan, and therefore its biggest selling point. Through interpersonal connections, potential tourists to Taiwan will discover and be moved by new and unique experiences.
The short ads will cover such broad topics as Taiwan’s superstitions and religions, local cultures, aboriginal tribes, hot springs, modern culture, mountaineering, and eco-tourism. They will introduce these topics in a way that allows the viewer to feel the spirit of Taiwan, understand the enthusiasm of people at all levels of Taiwanese society, and really experience the unique qualities and values that draw so many visitors to Taiwan every year. These films effectively present the natural beauty of our island and our people, enticing and intriguing the viewer.
In addition, in order to celebrate our 100 year anniversary, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau has launched a number of campaigns to promote tourism to Taiwan this year, including For 100 Years, Get 100 Dollars, Scratch and Win Double 10 Prizes, Gifts for the Six Millionth Visitor, and Free Tours for Transit Passengers, free half day tours, making this an ideal time for people to travel to our beautiful island.
