The Power of Caregiving In The Fight Against Cancer- Charlie and Bill February 17, 2014 Bill has been battling cancer for 11 of the 18 years that he and Charlie have been together. Like most couples, Charlie and Bill hadn’t thought much about something bad happening to one of them. “I was very healthy and then all of a sudden, at forty years old I got cancer…it was mindboggling,” Bill says. Over the years there have been many ups and downs, but their ability to be honest with each other about their feelings has helped them to deal with the adversity. Charlie explains, “It’s a rough road to try and hold it together emotionally and physically, while still being there for the person you love. But, you just find a way to do it. You feel bad that you are feeling things like guilt and regret and anger, but when you learn that those feelings are natural and normal, it’s very liberating.” Charlie is a staunch advocate for Bill with healthcare professionals, insurance personnel, and anyone else involved with his care. Bill says “Without him, I wouldn’t be alive as long as I have been.”{enclose JNJBillCharlie.m4v}
