They took Europe by storm and became one of the most important musical partnerships in history. The music has its roots in American popular music and in the reverence for Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and other great American jazz figures. DORADO SCHMITT carries on Djangos legacy playing with amazing virtuosity and a like originality that inspires guitarists all over the world. And like Django, Dorado is a highly regarded Composer. Born in the Lorraine region of France, he was brought up in a musical family with a father who was a violinist and so he also passed the baton to his son SAMSON SCHMITT, already one of the stars of gypsy guitar on the horizon. Both appear at The Spirit of Django and Grappelli as regulars on the NY scene by popular demand having appeared at the famous Django Reinhardt Festival at Birdland for many years. PETER BEETS, from Holland, joins the group and is a young, brilliantly talented jazz pianist, with a special inclination to the musical style of Django and a sympatico with the gypsy musicians. REGINA CARTER is the Special Guest carrying on the legacy of the great jazz violinist STEPHANE GRAPPELLI on this occasion. Regina has her own band and tours major concerts halls and Fetival around the world, but tonight she pays homage to one of her heros, the great Grappelli upon what would have been his 100th anniversary! She also makes history by performing with the legendary Dorado SchmittĶ.it will be a first ! Add to this BUCKY PIZZARELLI who played and performed with Grappelli for years, including several Carnegie Hall events. BRIAN TORFF, also a regular, will be on bass (and some hosting). He also toured with the great Grappelli for years. HOWARD ALDEN also known for his talent in hot jazz as well as having perfomed on Woody Allens film about Django, Sweet and Lo Down, appears as well.
