9/11 Event to Remember the Lost and Honor First Responders
Join is in this Vigil of Remembrance and Honoring
The event will feature stories, photos and artifacts from Lyndon Harris who was the priest in charge of Saint Paul’s Chapel directly across the street from the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. Harris was standing across the street when the second plane hit the South Tower that fateful morning. For over 8 months following the attacks, Harris and the Saint Paul’s Chapel team served over half a million meals to rescue workers and offered massage therapy, chiropractic care, inspirational concerts and all manner of supplies. This event will honor the heroism and courage of our first responders, for whom everyday is a potential 9/11.
The World Trade Center Memorial Chalice designed by Maine artist Jessica Stammen Ives will be on display. The Chalice was created from the actual steel remnant from the World Trade Center. The items were first collected for an exhibit at the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum for the 10th anniversary of the event entitled Eyewitnesses to 9/11: From Tragedy to Transformation. See an interview about that exhibit here: http://youtu.be/HRFctI-9aeE
Featuring music by LA-based musician, Sharon Benson and her band Soul Dogs. At the 10th Anniversary Commemoration of 9/11/01 at NY University (with headliner Pete Seeger!), Sharon came across the continent to sing one song: her beautiful song, “You Rescued Me.” So, come on out! You don’t want to miss the opportunity to hear her sing it to honor first responders here at Tigg’s Pond! Our 9/11 event is the launch of her “Love Wins 2014” Tour culminating with a performance in New York City’s Central Park Band Shell for the United nations International Day of Peace (September 21). Sharon, Lyndon, Robert “Wayno” Switzer, and Sarah Hipp will make stops along the way from Tigg’s Pond to New York City.
