Sunday, December 4, 2011 in Central Park in New York City
NEW YORK, NY, NOVEMBER 10, 2011 – Voices Against Brain Cancer, New York Road Runners (NYRR) and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) have joined forces in the Annual “Join the Voices! Against Brain Cancer First Annual Run/Walk” on Sunday, December 4 in Central Park in New York City. The event, which pays tribute to New York Road Runners Founder Fred Lebow (who passed away of brain cancer), will be a morning of family, fun and fitness to support brain cancer research. The event will raise awareness and funds for brain cancer and brain tumor research.
The event will feature an ING New York City Marathon qualifying 5-mile race, a 1.7-mile scenic walk, kid’s races and family activities. The day will also honor Dr. Lisa DeAngelis, Neuro-Oncologist and Co-Executive Director of the Brain Tumor Center at MSKCC, as well as the 2011 Courage Award and 2011 Caregiver Award Recipients.

“We’re so thrilled to be working with New York Road Runners and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on this event,” said Mario Lichtenstein, Co-Founder, Voices Against Brain Cancer. “Brain tumors affect people of every age, gender, and ethnicity. We hope this day will bring us a step closer to a cure to end this deadly disease.”
Over 200,000 people were diagnosed with brain tumors last year, a number that continues to rise each year as more people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. The mission of VABC is to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community and supporting patients, their families and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease.
