Westwood Gallery NYC opening reception for artists Todd DiCiurcio and Bryan el Castillo, curated by Cavello on June 7th brought out an A-list crowd that included actors, musicians, models, artists and collectors. Academy award winner and activist Sean Penn was intrigued with the process of Todd DiCiurcio’s work and model/philanthropist, Happy Hearts Fund Founder, Petra Nemcova attended to support friends Todd and Megan DiCiurcio. Grammy award winning musician and singer Esperanza Spalding was so moved by the artist’s cross platform expression with music and art, she asked gallery owner’s/friends James Cavello and Margarite Almeida, if Todd would capture an upcoming performance.
Other attendees included, actress, Lynn Collins, star of the film ‘John Carter of Mars’ along with her husband/actor/ Steven Strait of ‘Magic City’; actress Aleksa Palladino of ‘Boardwalk Empire’ with her husband Devon Church who are founding members of Exitmusic; actor Brian Geraghty from ‘Hurt Locker’; model/actress Elisa Sednaoui; new CEO of EPS at Bloomberg Stanley Young; designers Simon Spurr and Rebecca Minkoff with husband, actor/director Gavin Bellour; legendary rock music photographer, Mick Rock; musician/artist Adam Green; actress/fashion it girl Nora Zehetner; photographer Eric Ray Davidson: rock band Peanut Butter Lovesicle hot off their London tour, Gagosian artist Richard Phillips and Andrea Rosen artist Josephine Meckseper.
Bryan el Castillo’s paintings represent a defragmented protest view of war, world finance and social commentary. Todd DiCiurcio focuses on capturing live music performance through an expressive drawing technique. In the gallery a captivating video portrays Todd as he sketched a live music session with group, MT Warning on a recent trip to Australia. Other music artists who have been the subject of Todd’s work include Jane’s Addiction, Guided by Voices, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bon Jovi, Kings of Leon, Dinosaur Jr., Bob Mould, Broken Social Scene, Exitmusic, The English Beat, Grizzly Bear, BP Fallon and The Killers. By the end of the evening there were numerous acquisitions of Bryan and Todd’s artwork by several collectors.
