Dear Media Professional
Today, Jesus is selling millions of books besides the Bible. Tellingly, the gist of many of these books and many contemporary Christian movements is revisionist, or at least alternative. Some of the current best-selling books about Jesus are
Two from Deepak Chopra — Jesus: A Story of Enlightenment and
The Third Jesus: The Christ We Cannot Ignore
Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why by Bart D. Ehrman
Jesus for the Non-Religious by Bishop John Shelby Spong
The Yoga of Jesus: Understanding the Hidden Teachings of the Gospels by the late, venerable Paramahansa Yogananda
There are millions of Christians with questions, devoutly spiritual individuals for whom traditional dogma no longer holds up. Many of them are seeking a new way to understand Jesus and his teachings, a new way to answer the questions, Who am I, What am I here for, What is God? .
Dr. Gene Pascucci, a Reno, Nevada, dentist, began this search at age eight after an awakening during his first Holy Communion at his familys Catholic church. After traumatically gagging on the Communion wafer, young Pascucci said to himself, THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON HERE! I have to figure out what is going on. What is this all about? Why does everyone believe all this?
Over the next 47 years, Pascucci explored teachings and experiences that ultimately led him to direct knowledge of the answers to his questions. Now, he shares his deepest personal experiences of guilt, shame, confusion, seeking, and enlightenment in his new book, What If Were Him? The Transformation of Spirituality (Publisher Name, 2009).
Gene Pascucci does not indict Catholicism or Christianity, but rather offers a doorway for his readers to consider alternative possibilities they might find empowering and liberating. His story has details that everyone can relate to, and his sharing is clear, warm and open-hearted. Were sure your audience will find Gene and his book fascinating and valuable. WHAT IF WERE HIM?
CONFESSIONS OF A TRANSFORMED CATHOLIC
One Mans Personal Journey of Spiritual
Transformation and Enlightenment
RENO, NEVADA What does it take to instigate a personal search for God? Some people are simply born seekers; others are turned toward this search for Truth by lifes circumstances.
Dr. Gene Pascucci, a successful 55-year old Reno, Nevada, dentist and mystic! — has written an intimate and inspiring, autobiographical personal search for God book that belongs in every spiritual seekers library. In What If Were Him? Theres Something Going On Here The Transformation of Spirituality (Name of Publisher, 2009), Pascucci tells his story of growing up in a Catholic household, confronted at an early age by guilt and doubt, his subsequent 47-year search for a personal spiritual truth that would ultimately set him free, providing redemption, resurrection, and a new life.
Can you find yourself in Genes story? Briefly, here are some details from Pascuccis life. How many of them sound familiar? .
Enrollment in Catholic school and initiation into the Catholic faith.
As a child, on a dare, breaking into a friends home and stealing a pack of chewing gum, the guilt eating a hole in his soul.
A mother in electroshock therapy treatment for a severe nervous breakdown, and thinking that stealing the gum may have caused her illness.
At age eight, when receiving first Holy Communion, getting the wafer stuck on the roof of his mouth, gagging; the trauma popping him out of the ritual into an observer state, saying to himself, THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON HERE! I have to figure out what is going on. What is this all about? Why does everyone believe all this?
At age 14, discovering the pleasures of masturbation, and adding the guilt to his burden of suffering.
At age 17, having sex outside of marriage. Still more guilt.
Getting his girlfriend pregnant and going through with an abortion. Living with the experience of being a murderer.
Thats a lot of pain, guilt, and suffering for a 17-year old to be carrying. No wonder Gene was seeking a path to redemption that he could fully embrace.
From age eight (the Holy Communion awakening), Gene had been drawn to question and understand the most profound realities of Life. Who are we? What is God? What are we here for? He almost attended seminary to become a priest but decided that family life with children was more his path.
But his need to know these deepest truths the answers to these essential questions and his own personal redemption — never left awareness. Pascucci notes, I have invested the greater part of my free time and personal resources; traveling, reading, studying, sitting in lectures, listening to CDs and watching videotapes and DVDs, in order to study everyone I could find, who I felt knew something about what I most wanted to know.
This book is a distillation of hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours in endless study of books, travel, lectures, seminars, and discussions, along with many sleepless nights. It is a synthesis of what became unveiled to me, living in this vigorous inquiry process.
Of course, while engaged in this lifelong search for truth, meaning, and personal redemption, Gene completed dental school, married and raised a family, and developed a popular and successful dental practice in Reno, where he still works and resides with his family. But his search did last nearly five decades, taking him to several continents including India, where he met the renowned Indian holy man, Satya Sai Baba.
In his bibliography, Pascucci cites more than one hundred teachers, guides, and mentors who provided spiritual nourishment along his path. Among them, many familiar names Werner Erhard, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Joseph Campbell, Paramahansa Yogananda, Ram Dass, Freud, Carl Jung, Byron Katie, The King James Version of the Bible, Muktananda, Deepk Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, and many, many others.
