WCC’s Global Youth Service Day Turns into a Week!!
We had so many requests for empowerment trainings that we couldn’t do it all in one day. WCC kicked off the week with training at the Herbert Von King Cultural Arts Center before moving onto the Sunset Park Recreation Center, both in Brooklyn. A total of 11 trainings throughout NYC and NJ rounded out our week of reaching over 600 youth directly and impacting many more family members and neighbors in these communities. Special thanks to all of our volunteers, partners, and staff that made this week a huge success!
NJ Hurricane Irene Long-Term Relief
WCC Program Manager Marina Diaz continues visiting homes and working with our teams as we help NJ’s neediest reclaim their homes. As FEMA projects this effort will take a full two years, WCC continues to train and support new teams wanting to help. Please contact mdiaz@worldcares.org if you would like to become involved. We would like to thank all our partners for their incredible work and team effort, including Bergen County Volunteer Center, CERT, Rebuild Together, Habitat for Humanity, and many others.
WCC and Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley (District 30, Queens) will co-host a preparedness forum this Thursday (4/19) from 7-9pm at St. Margaret’s School in Middle Village, NY. The forum will train local youth in preventing home disasters, kitchen and cooking safety, and family/ neighborhood preparedness while holding a workshop for adults in assessing how they can be involved as ready responders to help in their community when disruptions occur. Councilmember Crowley will kick off the event along with Dr. Bill Evans from WABC-TV. Additional trainings with NYC Councilmembers Vallone and Williams are ensuring that every one of our neighbors is prepared for an assortment of disruptions and that no one will be left vulnerable in the case of an emergency.
