Hurricane Sandy has passed and the election is over. Many strong progressives were elected in the House and Senate, and Jay Inslee takes over as Governor of Washington. Climate deniers were defeated. Here’s our summary. And to the surprise of many, big money lost, and that’s important for renewable energy.
Although the Michigan referendum failed to raise the state’s RPS and the GMO labeling initiative was defeated in California, that state passed a measure that will fund renewable energy, and two states passed initiatives to overturn Citizens United.
This week’s Greentech Spotlight is “Gas Up With CO2.” Researchers capture CO2 from the atmosphere and turn it directly into transportation fuel. I believe carbon capture will be an enormously important industry – we won’t be able to reduce emissions fast enough to avoid the worst effects of climate change without it.
