Yvon Chouinard, noted for his contributions to environmental causes, believes everyone can benefit by doing their part — His company Patagonia donates 1% of total sales annually to grassroots environmental orgs to the tune of more than $35 million to over 1,000 organizations!
Now Yvon has teamed up with the Members Project, an innovative online initiative that provides those with a passion for philanthropy and those who are interested in giving back, the opportunity to take small steps to make a big difference.

It will be 40 years ago this April 22nd that the first EARTH Day was celebrated, marking a major turn in how society viewed the planet and individuals role in helping to preserve it for future generations. Now, 40 years later, more and more Americans are taking an active role in helping to save the planet from everything from eliminating fossil fuel use and preventing the Green House Effect, to saving endangered species and making greater use of alternative energy sources.
Yvon Chouinard, an avid rock climber, environmentalist and outdoor industry entrepreneur, noted for his contributions to environmental causes, believes everyone can benefit by doing their part — by either helping the environment or helping society by volunteering, making charitable contributions and just plain getting involved in a cause you may be passionate about.
His company Patagonia focuses on helping environmental causes by donating 1% of total sales annually to grassroots environmental organizations. To-date the company has donated more than $35 million to over 1,000 groups!
Now Yvon has teamed up with the Members Project, an innovative online initiative that provides those with a passion for philanthropy and those who are interested in giving back, the opportunity to take small steps to make a big difference. The initiative is a collaboration between American Express and TAKEPART, a content-driven social action network designed to drive citizen engagement and positive social action.
