As Immigration/Refugees Remain Top Priority for Lawmakers There has been ongoing debate over the issue of immigration and refugees for many months here in the U.S. and around the world. And in June, there is a day dedicated to refugees -- to raise awareness to their needs and plight, realizing the horrors they have endured in leaving their homeland to find a safe place to live. It's a time to try to work together to ensure every refugee child gets an education, every family has a safe place to call home and every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution to their community. Arlington West Memorial
Arlington West refers to the "temporary cemetery" itself, as well as Veterans for Peace's project of installing the temporary memorial. The name, Arlington West, was given to the memorial by WWII veteran Ted Berlin and reflects the name of the national cemetery of the United States, Arlington National Cemetery, a burial place of honor for fallen war heroes. Arlington National Cemetery is the location of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and is also the final resting place for John F. Kennedy. Arlington West—in a manner similar to "real" cemeteries—is intended by the project organizers to be a place to mourn, reflect, contemplate, grieve, and meditate, to honor and acknowledge those who have lost their lives, and to reflect upon the costs of war. All You Need is Ecuador By Terri Hirsch
After 28 days at sea the Flagship of the Ecuadorian Navy known as “Buque Escuela Guayas” left its home base of Guayaquil, Ecuador May 12, 2015 on its first trip around the world. During its nine months tour at sea the ship will be home to 13 officers (4 women), 78 crew. 9 musicians and 41 midshipmen (7 are women). The Guayas is a beautiful three-masted barque used for training youngsters for a naval career. Built in Bilbao, Spain she is named after the river on which the Ecuadorian Naval School is situated. The school was founded by the liberator of South America, Simon Bolivar and has been taking cadets from this school since she was launched in 1976.
