WHO: UNESCO & Good News Corporation Partner to Celebrate The UN International Day of Peace, NYC Schools, Peace Celebrities, Proclamations
WHY: The International Day of Peace («Peace Day») is observed around the world on September 21. Established in 1981 by the unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37, the General Assembly declared a day devoted to «commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.»
WHAT:
- Times Square – Friday September 16th: 11:00am-12:15pm Press Conference.
- Father Duffy Square (47th Street/next to TKTS Bleachers); Creation of Human Peace Sign and sing along/dance/party.
- At 12noon, a Moment of Silence (Note: This is symbolic as “Our Dream” on September 21 is a Worldwide Moment of Silence/Global Truce to occur).
- Central Park/Band Shell – Sunday September 18th: 1045am-6pm
- The Vigil for Peace & Ecology, celebrates its 15th Anniversary, bringing attention to the International Day of Peace.
- The Peace Day Party, in partnership with UNESCO, starts at 1045am-12:15pm, to be followed by other special Vigil for Peace performances.
- New York City Schools – Wednesday, September 21:
- (The International Day of Peace).
- The Board of Education Respect for All Program joins the Peace Day program.
